FORT DALLES AIRSOFT

RULES OF PLAY

We strive above all else for;

Sportsmanship
& Safety

As a side goal, we try to stress REALISM as much as possible. For us, this means things like the use of only standard (or low capacity) magazines. We play with anyone regardless of what they have, but our team adheres to our rules.

VELOCITY LIMITS

Velocity is simply the speed at which the 6mm plastic BB's travel. What makes the BB's hurt when they hit is a combination of the velocity & weight of the BB's. This is commonly referred to as foot pounds of energy. Paintballs are substantially heavier than the BB's we use and as a general rule, hurt much worse. Still to avoid injury, we limit the guns we use to certain guidelines.

We, as a team, only use .20g biodegradable BB's. (the exception is our glow in the dark BB's which are the same weight or lighter but not biodegradable).

Heavier BB's fly slightly more stable, but as a result hurt worse due to increase weight (that foot pounds thing again.) Your gun only exerts so much force, so if you use heavier BB's, you actually shoot slightly slower than with the lighter ones.

We recommend that your gun shoots below 300fps (feet per second) with .20g BB's in general. By adhering to this, it is a little safer for everyone. Stock guns should have no problem staying within this realm.

Again, with realism being a main consideration of ours, a sniper rifle should outrange a sub-machine gun or pistol. In keeping with that we have set these more detailed limits.

Advanced Velocity Limits

If you adhere to these limits, some concessions must be made. See our section on "Surrender or Die!" and make the adjustments stated there.

These again, are only our guidelines. If your gun falls wildly outside these, and can shoot through concrete or some B.S. like that, maybe you should tone it down. We try to get everyone we play with to be on the same sheet of music for safety. If your gun is too hot, and you still play with it, play accordingly. Shoot from further back than everyone else. Realize that if someone gets hurt, you are responsible, and play like the responsible person we hope you are.

PROTECTIVE GEAR

GOGGLES! or other solid eye protection is a must. I highly recommend a full face mask. There are many available for paintball, which work fine for Airsoft. JT, Scott, Vents, and others make fine masks. Follow the same rules for Airsoft as for Paintball. Such as, if you are hit directly in the lens... change the lens. A few bucks is so worth it when talking about your vision.

If you are going to wear glasses instead of goggles, make sure that they meet all ANSI safety requirements. Poly Carbonate is an excellent material. Still, replace them once they have taken a hit. Make sure that there is no way for a BB to get past the lens and hit your eye. If you have a big nose like me, glasses may not work for you. I still recommend the mask. One lip shot, or ear and you should understand what I mean.

NEVER REMOVE EYE PROTECTION DURING A GAME

Wear whatever clothing you think is safe. Be advised that a Ghillie suit is about the same is a knight in plate armor. You are not going to feel most hits. Sportsmanship is the key here. If the other player says that he hit you and you can't feel it because you are wrapped up like the kid on "A Christmas Story", just go out. Play next game. By the way, a cup is not a bad idea.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

Don't be stupid. If you know you are too close to someone, or thier goggles are off, or whetever is unsafe...Don't shoot!

Generally the game is played that if you or your gun are hit anywhere, you are out. We try to play what we call our "extremities" rules. If you are hit in the arm, you can't use that arm. Hit in the gun, you can't use that gun. Hit in the head or torso, you're gone. This again, adds the realism that we strive for, and allows slightly longer, and harder games. Quite nice if you only have 6 people playing that day.

Surrender or Die! When we are within about 15 feet of another player and he does not know we are there, we give a chance to surrender. Give the warning and be ready. 9 times out of 10 the guy knows he's had and will walk off quitely. The tenth guy is just sure that he can spin around while diving for cover, raise his gun, and either sight in or randomly fire and hit you all before you can pull your trigger once. In this case, you merely show him that he cannot :)
